One Night in Miami
Director: Regina King
Writer: Kemp Powers
Cast: Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, Leslie Odom Jr.
One Night in Miami, Regina King makes a major directorial debut, an understated historical drama set during a gathering of extraordinary minds, when Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Muhammad Ali (then Cassius Clay, Eli Goree), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.), and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge) stayed in a quiet hotel room in Florida for a night. Based on the play of the same name by Kemp Powers, King’s film dives deep into an imaginary dialogue spun from those historical events, a celebration of the young black men who during the civil rights movement carved out a place in all avenues of public life, and an intellectual inquiry into their individual methods of activism. The performances are stunning, particularly from Ben-Adir and Odom, whose conflicting approaches to their shared ideologies lead to the most dramatic movement of the film. And King is just directing the hell out of everything, who would know one thing or two about great performance.
Sound of Metal
Director: Darius Marder
Writers: Darius Marder and Abraham Marder
Cast: Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke, Paul Raci, Lauren Ridloff, Mathieu Amalric
Do not sleep on Sound of Metal, Amazon’s best original movie of the year could only be a touching new drama. The film was originally debuted by the International Film Festival in Toronto in 2019 and was ready for a more splashing summer release before the pandemic turned the film industry down. Riz Ahmed was a Metal Drummer who quickly loses his audience and must relearn how to live his life. The Amazon film’s arrival feels much quieter than it should, since it is a beautiful and phenomenally successful storey about empathy and renaissance with an excellent performance by the always-trustworthy Ahmed. He is well matched by his girlfriend and bandmate Olivia Cooke and by the man Paul Raci, who runs a community for survivors in one of the year’s most memorable performances. Sound of Metal is a slow, steady and compelling portrait of addiction, sneaky and intriguing tolls, and why it pays much more for your life than any of the tolls you have to pay. And it is a striking insight into human grace that reminds us that it does not dim the beauty these lives can have just because difficult, even devastating new circumstances can ever change the structure of life.
the 10 best movies on amazon prime Crawl
Director: Alexandre Aja
Writers: Michael Rassmussen and Shawn Rassmussen
Cast: Kaya Scoldelario, Barry Pepper
If you are looking for a creature feature that movie 1) grabs you by the throat and never lets go, 2) lowkey features some of the best horror performances in recent memory, 3) whips ass, you’re gonna want to check out Crawl.Driven by Alexandre Aja, the filmmaker for High Tension and The Hills Have Eyes, Crawl is a monster of nonsensical sensuality that pits a woman (Kaya Scodelario) and her estranged dad in the crawls of her Florida home with a bunch of medium-size, mangrooming alligators and wastes no time scratching one nail bite sequence after another. Running 87 minutes, Crawl is cool and fun like hell, with some of the best composed monster films
How to Train Your Dragon
Directors: Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois
Writers: Will Davies, Dean DeBlois, and Chris Sanders
Cast: Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kristin Wiig
The How to Train Your Dragon movie films are easily one of the best new children and family franchises in the 21st century (and the inferior but still charming collection of Netflix original series inspired by the film franchise are there to help you if your kids get a little too hooked on the adventures of Berk.) But in the original Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois film, which brought publics to Berk’s Viking island where Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and his outraging dragon Toothless start their epic adventures, the raw magic is still there for all technological advances in the animation and the subsequent dazzling visuals of the sequels. the 10 best movies on amazon prime
The Avengers
Director: Joss Whedon
Writers: Joss Whedon and Zak Penn
Cast: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgard, Clarke Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Bettany
the 10 best movies on amazon prime Compared with Avengers‘ enormity, Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, it seems positive, but the Avengers were completely changing movies that showed that the great universe of superheroes in Marvel Studios was working – and moreover, that it could work best when paying off long plot-arcs for epic team-up movies. This was the only thing that could work. And thanks to Joss Whedon’s writer and director (as proven in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, the outstanding series), the film set the stage for the future of the MCU.
It’s holding on to it. With the exception of the underworking opening, each set piece still whips, from the first showdown between Cap, Thor and Iron Man, until the iconic moment the Avengers are gathering in New York City rubble. Avengers are such a narrow film. It is a historic film, it has changed the future of the film industry and sparked up a series of imitators. And I imagine that you cannot stream it without a Disney+ subscription for much longer, so get on with it as long as you can!
KGF
Director: Prashanth Neel
Writers: Prashanth Neel
cast : Yash, Srinidhi Shetty, Anant Nag, Archana Jois, Achyuth Kumar, Vasishta N. Simha, Malavika Avinash, Raveena Tandon, Ayyappa P. Sharma.
the 10 best movies on amazon prime KGF Film Review: The impressively-assembled set represents the flimsy storey of Prashanth Neel. With his great background orchestra, composer Ravi Basrur raises the scenes.
Chapter 1 begins with the signing of an order by Indian Prime Minister to end the reign of the most fearful criminal in the country. It’s Rocky, of course (Yash). The criminal lord of the world was starting very humbly. A single mother, who died because of poverty when still young, raised him in Mysore. She gives the protagonist an objective of chasing before bidding adieu: to become rich in every possible form. An impressive boy tells a madman on the streets how to accomplish his aim: become strong.
gladiator
Director: Ridley Scott
Writers: David Franzoni, William Nicholson, John Logan.
the 10 best movies on amazon prime Rome is built over its past layer by layer, perhaps more than any other city. Between an office building from the Mussolini era and a sleek apartment building a magnificent collapse from ancient Rome can be found. The Roman magic, the buzz of Vespas, the parade of Roman soldiers, the grandeur and squalor that exists side by side, has captured movie makers such as Fellini and Ridley Scott. The best way to feel it to visit Rome, which we cannot do (at least not in person) right now, is by taking its unique atmosphere through those films, where the Eternal City is the leading place. So stir up a Negroni and settle in for an evening watching these movies set in Rome.
Late Night
Director: Nisha Ganatra
Writer: Mindy Kaling
Cast: Mindy Kaling, Emma Thompson, Hugh Dancy, John Lithgow, Denis O’Hare, Reid Scott, and Amy Ryan
the 10 best movies on amazon prime You’re going to like Late Night if you’re a fan of Hollywood backstage stories and romcoms. The film follows a young woman (Mindy Kaling) with an old-known but declining late-night host Emma Thompson’s all-male writers. The idealistic young writer meets the host’s and her staff’s cynicism while trying, with other obstacles, to reverse the show. It’s sweet and funny, but surprisingly emotional when it comes to its end. Thompson delivers an excellent performance as a complicated and powerful woman, and Kaling is lovely as her boss’s naive comedy newbie.
jurassic park
Director: Colin Trevorrow, J. A. Bayona, Steven Spielberg, Joe Johnston.
Writer: Michael Crichton
the 10 best movies on amazon prime When young Steven Spielberg was offered the screenplay for Jaws for the first time, he said that he would direct the film under a condition: that for the first hour he did not have to show the shark. He felt the hedgehog would be much more impressive by building the audience’s apprehension slowly.
He’s been okay. His new thriller set up on a remote island thematic park where real dinosaurs are grown from the long-sleeping DNA molecules, I wish it would have remembered his lesson when preparing ‘Jurassic Park.’ The film fulfils its promise too well to show dinosaurs. We see them early and often, and they are indeed a triumph of special effects artistry, but the movie is lacking other qualities that it needs even more, such as a sense of awe and wonderment, and strong human story values.
Gravity
Director: Alfonso Cuarón
Writer: George Clooney, Alfonso Cuarón, Jonás Cuarón.
the 10 best movies on amazon prime Alfonso Cuarón’s “Gravity” is a huge, technically dazzling film about astronauts coping with disasters. You may feel – for the first time since ‘The Right Stuff,’ perhaps – that a Hollywood blockbuster grasps the essence of a job that many cannot imagine without feeling dizzy when watching Sandra Bullock and George Clooney spacefighters go about their business. Informative and enchanted are the panoramas of astronauts who crumble against starfields and float around space stations.
However, it isn’ t its scale, suspense or sense of wonder that the most surprising and impressive thing about “Gravity.” In its heart, this is not primarily a movie about astronauts, or about space or even of a special disaster. It is a high-technology storey of wilderness or shipwreck that occurs amongst the stars and that will fit well in a double-bill next to “Deliverance,” “127 Hours,” “Cast Away,” “Rescue Dawn,” or the upcoming “All Is Lost.” For all its stunning exterior, it is really about emotional internality that it explores, letting the faces and voices of the actors bear the burden of meaning.
